THE TRUMP DIARIES: 2/2/17

Today is a day of rumors, swirling rumors, and it made me think of the final lines of, “The Dead,” which is a memorable story by James Joyce: “His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead.”

The rumors are falling faintly. Here’s a few, as well as facts that do or do not support them:

Rumor: Neil Gorsuch, Herr Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court, started a club in high school called, “Fascist Club Forever.” Fact: The first rule of Fascist Club Forever is there is no Fascist Club Forever.

Rumor: Melania Trump is separating from Herr Trump, and staying in NYC. The Leader’s daughter, Ivanka, will perform official state duties in her place, as she did yesterday when she accompanied him to view the body of the Navy SEAL who was killed on an ill-planned mission in Yemen ordered by her father. Fact: Melania has joined the Citizens Upright Brigade, and has taken up residence in Brooklyn.

Rumor: Steve Bannon is a boozehound and provocateur who disrupts social norms with no aim other than to enjoy a laugh at the expense of others. Fact: The man is an imposter, a paid actor, and none other than Zach Galifianakis. You cannot make this stuff up.
